Postural Care entails interventions to individuals in wheelchair seating, alternative seating device, and lying on a support surface. The beginning of postural care can be traced back to the study by Fulford and Brown in 1976 who firstly suggested children who have a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and are unable to mobilise develop windsweeping deformities because of the effect of gravity rather than spasticity or muscle imbalance. In other words, postural distortions were not part of their congenital condition but an acquired condition after birth. Since then, the interest of research in this area has grown leading to today’s highly recognised practices of 24-hour postural care.
