MYALPHA Therapy

What Services Do We Provide?

We provide a range of individualised programmes and therapy services to help individuals and families navigate the complexity of life with a disability as well as the current funding system including NDIS, Insurance Commission of Western Australia, Home Care Package, Medicare, and private health insurance.

Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)

Individuals with neurological, musculoskeletal, congenital and degenerative conditions, ageing in place, spinal cord injury or acquired brain injury frequently face difficulties in daily activities. A Functional Capacity Assessment evaluates an individual’s performance in all aspects of daily life, including at home, work and in the community.

The MyAlpha team can assess your skills in communication, mobility, personal care activities, social participation, education, and employment. We also identify your needs for assistive equipment, home modifications, vehicle modifications, and more. This is crucial for providing evidence for the funding and services required in the NDIS plan to meet your needs and goals.

Assistive Technology (AT)

Assistive technology encompasses a wide range of simple to complex, low to high risk and off-the-shelf to customised equipment or technologies that enable individuals with disabilities to participate in activities independently and safely.

This includes shower and toileting equipment, mobility and transfer equipment, meal preparation aids and appliances, vehicle modifications, switches and environmental controls, as well as home automation systems.

Our team has extensive experience and can assist you in selecting, trialling and purchasing appropriate assistive technology to help you participate in daily activities to the best of your potential.

Complex Medical Conditions and Severe Disabilities

Individuals with multiple medical conditions and severe disabilities have complex care, support, and equipment needs. They often require specialised and ongoing assistance for all activities of daily living, communication, mobility, transfers, swallowing, nutritional needs, sleep, respiratory care, pressure injuries management, chronic pain, and more.

The MyAlpha team has vast experience in supporting individuals with extreme functional impairments and high support needs in private residential homes, supported accommodation, and SDA. We are skilled in providing holistic support for individuals with complex functional difficulties due to their cognitive, physical and psychosocial challenges.

Wheelchair Prescription

Wheelchair prescription is a highly specialised clinical area, particularly for wheelchair users with high functional and complex postural needs. The sheer number and variety of wheelchairs and seating products on the market make choosing an appropriate seating solution very challenging for both wheelchair users and clinicians.

Our team has decades of experience in wheelchair prescription, specialised and customised seating including CNC (Computer Numerical Control) seating solutions as well as pressure injuries management. Our experience dates back to a time when majority of today’s off-the-shelf seating products were not even available. To make sure you get the right seating solution to meet your needs and goals, we can offer a thorough seating assessment, analysis, and recommendations.

Postural Care

Postural care is a 24/7 supported sitting and lying regime for people at risk of developing or already having postural asymmetry and distortion. If left untreated, it can lead to significant postural deformities that may adversely impact physiological functioning and in the worst scenario, may result in premature death.

We have extensive experience in providing postural care to people with a range of physical disabilities. Our interventions are evidence-based and aim to protect and restore body shape, structure and internal organs.

Complex Home Modifications

Complex home modifications involve structural changes to your home that improve accessibility, safety and independence. It can include everything from bathroom reconfiguration and kitchen remodelling to installing customised ramps and grab rails. The ultimate goal is to allow you to stay in your house for as long as possible.

Our team is highly skilled in assessing your functional needs within your home and recommending practical alterations that will meet your present and future needs. We collaborate closely with you, your family, builders, architects and project managers to achieve the best possible outcome. We can assist you through the initial assessment, consultation, and funding application as well as final inspection.

Pressure Injury Management

People with severe disabilities who spend a prolonged period of time in a seated device or bed are prone to developing pressure injuries. They often require specialised therapy supports in this area. We can provide pressure mapping for individuals and clinicians to support their assessment, interventions, and outcome evaluation.

The MyAlpha team has two decades of experience in prevention and management of pressure injuries. We are highly experienced in training, education, and providing clinical support in this area. We collaborate closely with multiple health professionals to ensure the best treatment and assistive technology options are prescribed to help people through their recovery process.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Specialist Disability Accommodation is a range of purpose-built housing options designed and constructed for individuals with severe functional impairments and very high support needs. These homes have accessible features that assist individuals to live safely and independently.

Supported Independent Living, on the other hand, is a range of individualised supports designed to help individuals with high support needs who require significant assistance 24/7 to live in their own home or SDA in order to live safely and independently.

The MyAlpha team can provide comprehensive SDA and SIL assessment for individuals. This assessment is essential for providing evidence to NDIS in order to approve funding for SIL and SDA. We work closely with you and your families, support coordinators and care providers, and builders to ensure that appropriate facilities and services are in place.

Aged Care

The journey of ageing can be challenging without the proper support and assistance in place. The MyAlpha team has vast experience in home visits, delivering rehabilitation and functional restoration programs to the seniors and frail in their homes. We can liaise with your Home Care Package provider for your therapy services.

MyAlpha Therapy provides a full mobility assessment, falls prevention program, home assessment, and home modifications to help seniors live safely and independently in their own homes. In addition, we can also prescribe and supply basic aids and equipment during home visits as part of the service with prior arrangement.

Rehabilitation and Functional Restoration

Rehabilitation and functional restoration are interventions that help individuals regain functions, reduce disability, and prevent further deterioration because of their medical and health conditions. These conditions can be neurological, musculoskeletal, degenerative, or age-related such as stroke, fractures, or Parkinson’s Disease etc.

The MyAlpha team has extensive experience in providing personalised rehabilitation programs, including strengthening and balance exercises, education, and tasks adaptation in order to optimise your functions. We also provide a fall prevention program to help you stay safe at home, and work with you to set rehabilitation goals based on your needs and help you achieve them. In addition, we provide training for families or care givers in order to maximise the outcomes of your rehabilitation program.

Medico-legal Reports

At MyAlpha, we offer a comprehensive assessment and report on an individual’s cognitive, physical and functional skills and limitations because of their medical conditions, disabilities and injuries. With a desire for fairness and justice, our medico-legal reports are unbiased and independent where we address ADL, vocational capacity, assistive technology, home modifications, vehicle modifications, gratuitous and paid care, rehabilitation, and future health care needs.

We accept referrals from both plaintiffs and defendants in NDIS reviews, motor vehicle accidents, workers’ compensation cases, and public liability claims. MyAlpha Therapy collaborates with affected individuals, their families, insurers, lawyers, and government agencies.

Consultation, Training and Partnership

MyAlpha Therapy recognises the needs of individual clinicians and therapy services for consultation, training and mentoring. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has become increasingly difficult due to the need to sustain services within the current funding framework.

Our team has compiled resources and training material on our website to support clinicians to develop skills and competence. We can also provide in-person workshops in group including Postural Seating, Supported Lying, Minor and Complex Home Modifications, Transport Training, and more.

Our goal is to make allied health practices evidence-based, evidence-informed, and person-centered. We understand that every therapy service provider has their expertise, scope of service, and we are all on a journey of growing and developing. We welcome partnerships in service delivery with individual clinicians and allied health service providers to ensure that service users achieve their goals.
